Re: New Hunting Ammunition from PMP
I know. But on their own version the AE range was designed for Bushveld and the KE range for more open country. That is why the Swift Scirocco II bullet has a boat tail, theoretically it is a dedicated long range bullet, which, theoretically, the Swift A-Frame is not.
I suppose under normal hunting conditions it does not really make any difference, though.

Re: New Hunting Ammunition from PMP
Sorry Snaphaan, couldn't remember which bullets were loaded in the AE yesterday, rough day (come to think of it, logically it would be the A-frame). But practically, I wonder what the difference would be between the Scirocco II and A frame when loaded to the same specs.

Re: New Hunting Ammunition from PMP
No problem rb. I suppose any real ballistic difference would only really become evident at ranges so long that they are not practical hunting distances. That is just what I think.

I agree.
Just wish the AE was more affordable! Would love to try it out!

Re: New Hunting Ammunition from PMP
I have shot an Eland (200gr, .300 Win Mag) and 3 Gemsbokke (180 gr, .30-06) with A-Frames.
On the Eland, at 150m, I think it was a good choice and well worth the expence. It broke the shoulder, destroyed the hart and was found inside the skin on the other side. It mushroomed perfectly and weight retention was over 98%.
On the Gemsbokke, all between 170m to 190m, non-bonded bullets would probably have done the job equally well. All three those bullets exited and were not found. (All three were also engine room shots, two of which also had to break the shoulder.)

Re: New Hunting Ammunition from PMP
You would think PMP would come up with some original names. Norma Kalahari around for over a year, African PH too.

Re: New Hunting Ammunition from PMP
I will try to put it in perspective.
If you buy a box of Swift 180gr 308 50 rounds that will cost anything from R750 +, let use R750 as a test.
If you buy the loaded AE round they cost about anything from 700 + , use R700 as a test.
750 / 50 = R15 / bullet
700 / 20 = R35 / round
So if take of the R15 from the round the rest of the components cost R20!
If you further consider that PMP should pay much less for the swifts then us normal people then the only conclusion you can arrive at it that Rboshof is totally correct, or that PMP has gone totally bonkers.

Or now that I think of it this being SA they probably sold all their reloading equipment and employed 100 000 staff to load each round by hand, so they have to up their prices.
