licensing dilema
someone in my family passed away a few years back and had a gun that was never designated to anyone in the will. because it was so long ago, no one knows where the original license (if any) is. would it be possible to apply for a license now or is it a complete waste of time? not a valuable gun by any means...

Re: licensing dilema
The estate must be reopened. The executor can then be in possession and sign the forms.

the glory of the great dead.

Re: licensing dilema
Greyhound, I went through a similar dilemma some time ago (see: http://www.gunsite.co.za/forum/index.php?topic=1215.0). Eventually upon advice from SSP and a local lawyer who I consulted on the matter the opinion was that unless the firearm is of great value (sentimental or financially) that it's not worth the effort, which is considerable.

Re: licensing dilema
thanks for the advice. I will consult a lawyer friend who im sure will help me re-open the estate. it is of no value, could i just hand it in without any repercussions? or because there is no more amnesty, will i get into k@k? or do i still have to re-open the estate and then have the executor hand the gun in?

What are we talking about here? 38 S&W Victory revolver or Holland & Holland double?

Re: licensing dilema
haha, i wish! if it was a double, i would never be in this predicament!! Its just a .38 spl snubbie, taurus i think. so ya, no value at all. The son of the person who passed away had the thing, but forgot about it, and only remembered a month or so ago and then asked me what his options were. What a tool!
