I phoned Rocord and asked for articles they have on Centurion and more specific Rooihuiskraal based crimes.
The lady was very helpfull and gave it to me the next day with publishing dates and said I can put her number on the motivation.
Look for the number on their website.

Howzat Hypervdm
How many articles did she send you? Also, where these articles in English or Afrikaans?
I currently have put together a few articles from news24 that I have copied and pasted in a word doc. Do you guys think articles from news24 are sufficient?
Cheers

Re: STICKY: Motivation Letter Ideas and Examples.
Hi guys,
Well I have read this whole thread and together with stories from family mambers and colleagues
Have comme to the conclusion that applying for a FA licence is all about luck!
I just received my competency certificate (no cards anymore now a yellow certificate), now looking for a SD FA.
But I have to be honest that I am not sure if I want to waste the money/time/effort! I mean I do not belong to any club/association (used to shoot bisley) anymore
And my area I live in is pretty safe (good sector policing).
Now I've always loved shooting as I am sure most of us have and grew up with FA's.
At the moment I won't be able to join an association and start sport shooting again due to financial and work restraints.
my question is thus would an motivation for SD stand any chance under my circumstances?

Re: STICKY: Motivation Letter Ideas and Examples.
Sure you do... With all the shit going on in SA you are sure to find some articles on the net in your area. You can also use routes you drive to work, family members in other areas etc.
Do it! The worst that can happen is they don't approve it and then you appeal. These days you have to have a really bad motivation before it is turned down.

Re: STICKY: Motivation Letter Ideas and Examples.
The closest thing to real safety is being able to do something about a situation yourself. Relying on police or a 'safe neighborhood' only gets you so far. I have lived in the 'safest' neighborhoods in a relatively small town for a long time and have had several nasty encounters where I would have felt better armed (am now). Besides, I am sure that you leave the house from time to time - things happen during the day time too.
Few things are more worth the little time/money/effort it takes.
If nothing ever happens you will still have something to enjoy at the range and that pretty good feeling that you are doing something to protect yourself and your family.Last edited by gizmo16; 04-12-2011 at 10:59.
