Re: Confused: Skeletool CX vs SpyderCo Endura
LOL!!! PeaceOfficer... The guys at Southern Arms were probably so frustrated with me when I was trying to choose between a Glock 19 and a Glock 17... I eventually went for the Glock 17.
I have really not decided about the knife yet. Going to Huntex tomorrow. Thinking of that CRKT M16 something something :-D.
But I am going to check tomorrow what is available in the sub R1000 arena.
You going?

Yip - going on Sunday though. Let me know what you find sub R1000.
I've been looking at a few - CS AK47, SOG Aegis and the DPX Hest. Can't really decide on one. Different to what you're looking at though.
As a multi-tool, the CX is awesome. Bought one as a gift for someone. I toyed with the idea of keeping it for myself.

Re: Confused: Skeletool CX vs SpyderCo Endura
the pliers on the skeletool is not very strong. bought one to keep in my camelbak when i go biking. first time i had to use i discovered it's not really made for heavy duty work.
if you want a multi tool the other leathermans are better. even the entry level (think it's called a wingman) models.
if you use your leatherman as a pair of tweesers then go for the skeletool

Re: Confused: Skeletool CX vs SpyderCo Endura
Aaaarrrrgggh guys.... was at huntex. looked at the CRKT M16 range, the Cold Steel Lawman, AK47 and smaller Voyager. Also the Spyderco Endura(though I did not play with that one).
CRKT, nice knives, the bigger ones... scared it would get too big for EDC. The bigger ones were nice to open quickly with the quick flip story. But with the thumb stud it was hard? Still undecided here.
Cold Steel: Got a friend who swears by these. Hard hard steel that keeps its edge for very long etc. Tough. The lock on them(if you have watched the dvd) is about the best I have seen. But also hard to open. Good grips though! Fits the description of a SD knife I would say.
SpyderCo: As I said. Didn't play with it. But guessing there is a good chance I might go for one. All were sub R1k except the spyderCo. But you can import it for pretty cheap.
Still on the lookout though. I am over the CX. Lol! Meaningless one night stand. B-)

What was the price like on the AK47? I quite like it and according to the Cold Steel website its discontinued. Did you see the DPX there?

Re: Confused: Skeletool CX vs SpyderCo Endura
Requirements - I need a knife for EDC for SD purposes. I'm in jeans and t-shirts around the office so it's something that needs to blend in and not get noticed. But it also needs to be up to the task when required.
Huntex was perhaps too busy to spend time playing with the knives. Will go shop-hunting next weekend and smile real big for discounts :-D

Re: Confused: Skeletool CX vs SpyderCo Endura
Some points on what makes a knife (in particular a folder) suitable for SD (most of these will probably sound like re-wording of Suarez's points on picking a fighting knife):
1) Pointy. Blunt, sheepsfoot type blades are no good for sticking into people.
2) Sharp. I can stab you with many things, but only slash with a knife, really.
3) Secure grip. It doesn't help if the first time you stick a BG with it your hand slips off and you lose your knife, or your hand slides up over the blade and cuts you.
3) Fast and easy opening. This could be a wave feature (but only if it works 100% for you - they don't for me), or you could inertia open, or train to flick it using the thumb hole or stud. But if it's closed when you need the blade, you're up sh!t creek. Opening the blade on a LEatherman or Swiss Army Knife is by no means fast or easy.
4) Secure lock. This means nothing that will close on top of your fingers. So no slip-joints. CS, CRKT, Spyderco, Emerson, Kershaw, SOG: all the big names seem to have reliable locks.
5) Decent carry method. This means a clip that will allow it to sit securely in your pocket, or on your waistband behind your belt. Belt pouches, or inside the pocket carry are not optimal.
5) Personal fit. There are many knives. Most will fit you OK, some will feel like crap in your hands, and others will feel magical. If the magical one meets the first 5 points, you're set.

Re: Confused: Skeletool CX vs SpyderCo Endura
Of what has been mentioned thus far...and I own several Emersons, Randalls, Al Mars, etc. I almost always come back to an Endura. Great knives at excellent prices. If it is too big for your use go to the Delica.
