Default A day in the life of my EDC gun...

Reading almost any of the forums you realise that carrying a firearm is not a science and that opinions of how etc. differ greatly from person to person. I've started this thread to try see what others do and how it could help me and hopefully a thread develops that we can all learn from. If you do participate, take an average day and explain how you carry. If you only have a gun available for part of the day, tell us why and explain the time you do have your gun available.

My EDC gun is a Glock 19 Gen 4. Always been an admire of Glocks, but being a bit of a tradionalist, never wanted to own one. This one was bought to replace my .357 snubbie as an SD gun and to be a reliable SD piece if I lost access to any of my other guns in the future. Maybe I lose DSS for any number of reasons and with it access to guns which I rely on at certain times.
I bought the 19 as it was the best compromise between a go to town gun (G26) and a farm gun (G17)

I fetch staff everyday at 7.00. Just before I leave the house I put it on. I use a Frontline paddle holster. Like it for its lining and it's comfortable worn slightly forward of 4.00 clock. Magazine is a standard 15 round. I wear a shirt over it. Anyone who looks at me for longer than a second will see it. Out and about on the farm it's not a problem, but plan to get an Comptac IWB very soon as I am very aware - and think others - to when I'm in town. It needs to be more concealed. I normally wear cargo pants, so have plenty of pocket space, so I carry the spare mag in my left hand pocket. Something that will also change soon. My gun is with me the whole day except lunch when I lock it away as I play with my 3 year old. He is aware of guns and the teaching process has started, but I don't want to roll around with him with a gun on.

The evenings, whether on the farm or visiting other farms is, when I needed a large frame pistol. The gun is normally in one of 3 designated, quickly accessable spots depending on where I am in the house and what I am doing. The 15 round mag is now out and replaced by a 15 with arrodondo +6 extension, but I load 20. I also have a streamlight WML mounted. Our most vulnarable time is getting to our gate. I need the light and also the extra capacity. I plan to get a WML with an integrated laser. I'm not really a fan, but should have bought it in the first place. There are definatley times when I could possibly have to shoot from a unorthodox position. A laser will definatley help.

There are times when a SLR would be an advantage. I have one, but I bought a Triarii, again wanting to be sure I had one SD gun, which could cover all bases. Shooting the Glock in a Triarii, is like shooting a rifle. It has a rifle feel and at 25m, simultaneously allowed me to shoot about 50% faster, and on average half my group sizing. I am waiting for the Inforce WML's to land and then my Glock will go in here just before I go to bed, or if I need to check out my outbuildings and animals. It has a one point sling, so is perfect to drop down in front of me if I have to unlock padlocks etc.

Other than luch time, my gun is never in the safe. EDC is very new to me. I always made sure I carried to town etc, or took a gun out before I went to bed. Often it was my .357, the thought being I could use this to get to my safe if I had to. About 3 weeks back I had a major incident with an employee who was drunk. It almost turned violent, and he threatened me and my family. Major learning curve. Never again will I be 40m away from my family who are locked in a house with no firearms at there disposal, my safe keys on me and me with no gun!

I think the MTAC is a great idea. The 19 carries very well in it and I have never felt the danger of being 'made' carrying it at all.

First off-good thread.my edc gun of choice is my gen 3 glock 19.I sometimes rotate this with my trusty gen 3 22,but I have been carrying my 19 about 80% of the time since I got the s21 issued in october last year.i have been carrying a fa for sd since 1997 and am never without one apart from when I am at my desk at work.I work in a corporate environment and store my gun in a safe provided by my employer when I get to work, and collect it when I leave in the afternoon.if I go out during the day to a meeting or whatever I take my fa with me,purely because I will be travelling in a car which I consider a high risk situation.I carry my 19 in a maverick iwb holster in the 3-4 o clock position with an arredondo +3 shoe on my mag-i load 17 in the mag, with 1 in the chamber=18.I generally carry a std 15 rd mag in a houston paddle mag pouch on my weak side, same mag setup with my 22.outside work I carry my 19/22 in my mtac holster with 1 or 2 std 15 rd mags on my weak side(normally 2).again if its a single mag its either in the houston pouch or a glock mag pouch.if its 2,its either in a fobus double mag pouch or 2 glock pouches.at home the gun is always on me or never more than half a metre away from me-whether I am watching tv,eating, showering or sleeping.carry both my glocks with the arredondo +3 shoes on the primary mag loaded to 17 for a total of 18.if I go to the shop I carry my fa,if I am outside in the garden the fa is with me-bottom line-i am never without my fa.only reason I don't carry the fa in the comptac at work is that the maverick is easier to get on and off which helps with me putting the gun into the safe and taking it out.

I'm armed 24/7. My first choice is my G26 in a Mtac or one of Geoff's special holsters in a 3-4 o clock position with a wilderness belt. When I use the bathroom the door is locked and my gun is with me. When I sleep I have a special holster at my bed. When I go to gym, I use a special gym bag with a holster. I normally carry 3 spare mags on me in Comptac mag holder and another 3 G17 and 2 G26 mags in a small maxpedition go bag. My go bag is alo 24 hours close to me. Its like my glasses. All my G26 mags are +2 Glock mags. At home I might switch to an OWB holster. I'm build like a tank so concealment is never a problem.

    Nice thread.

My EDC gun is a S&W M&P9. Most of the year I'm in Potchefstroom where I study. Since I live in a hostel, with some of the other residents often drunk and I'm not allowed to install a safe, I prefer not to keep my gun in my room. It is stored by by campus security in a small safe with double keys (they can't unlock it without my key) inside a walk-in safe. Most of the time I am on campus, which I feel is a low risk area but I still carry my CRKT M16-14SFG knife with me on a permanent basis. The downside to my arrangement is that I don't have my gun when I'm in town, and muggings and robberies in Potch are increasing. When I leave Potch my M&P is on me 24/7, carried IWB in a Geoff Carter Multi-carry holster with my own DIY leather backing which makes it extremely comfortable. I always have a 17-round spare magazine in a Comp-tac single mag pouch on me when I carry. Most of the time the 3rd magazine is in my car but I will sometimes also carry it in a comp-tac pouch. When I'm in bed, it is hidden but within arms reach. When can't carry it on my hip at home, it's always within arms reach. My preferred concealment garments are either a slightly oversize T-shirt, a button short, or a t-shirt with a unbuttoned shirt over it.

This is going to be an awseome thread.

First off like most I'm always armed. The weopon in question is my trusty Glock 17 gen 2. One mag loaded with hornady XTP 115gr JHP, my +2 mag loaded with normal copper jackets and my other mag loaded half copper and half hollow points. I carry my pistol like most of you in the 3-4 position. Holster is a Lindsay John Ross and I must say that I'm very happy with it but will upgrade to a more preferred holster in the form of a Mtac. The mags get carted around in a fobus double but will upgrade this aswell.

My backup is a leatherman and I know most of you won't like this but hey I can conseal it and believe me it does do the job in defending.

My pistol never leaves my side and if it really has to I make sure that my wife and I are the only ones that know where it is and since I could not marry a tall model I always make sure that my pistol is in reach of my wife. The only time I do not have my pistol on my side is when I'm sleeping, having fun with the wife, having some playtime with the kids or restroom time. But evan then it is very close as I do not want to be surprised

First thing make sure NO ONE knows you lock away your gun at lunchtime , if they know this they will plan to attack you then , Farm attacks are very well planned , When I am on my farm my gun never leaves my side

Here is my setup , I cant carry to work and I ride bike to work , so When I get home I walk strait to my safe and take out my G 22c Gen1 , It goes on my hip on a fobus holster , it stays there until I go to work again next day.

EDC Glock 19. 15+1 magazine in firearm, 2 extra mags (Standard) in my man bag or one in my pocket or both on my belt depending on where I am.
Holster Geoff Carter IWB, with Blackhawk instructor belt, I mainly wear shorts/jeans and t-shirt/golf shirt. My Glock and safe has never met, but know about each other. At nights while driving (Magaliesburg) I wear my headlamp, Surefire on belt and two mags on belt. On the pottie firearm is always with me. I don’t go anywhere without my firearm and the few times I went to Monty Casino, I take my Glock apart and hand in the frame, slide and mags, but keep the barrel and spring in my wifes handbag.

What do you do when you go to sleep? I have a friend whose friend woke up one morning, looked on hid bedside table and found a hammer there. He thought that was really odd, got up and his house was pretty empty. The theory was that one of the robbers was tasked with making sure the victims don't wake up during the job.

I understand get an alarm etc etc. But what about guesthouses, camping, friends with no alarm system etc.

I am sure it os relevant to this thread.
