KZN scene?
Hi guys,
I've been looking through the posts here, reading a bit online etc. Interested in getting myself a muzzle loader (ML). Not a period replica, rather a modern looking ML. I see they often come in 24",26" and 28". Was thinking a 26" would be a reasonable all-round length for a bit of target shooting/hunting. I've read short for dense bush, long for open areas.
This brings me to my topic - KZN scene? Does anyone do any hunting in KZN of any sort with MLs? I haven't hunted before, but keen to give it a go. Not looking for wall trophies, rather quarry that can be eaten (as I image catch and release is not common practice ;) ).

28inch barrel is also fine. Its not that long. I got the traditions pursuit with 28" barrel and its not a heavy gun and points easily. Go and compare its overall lenght with a typical bush gun.

It just gets better and better! The thing is you cant expect it to shoot great the first time. You have to put in a lot of time doing load development, trying different projectiles etc. There's a lot of tricks to be learnt when it come's to bp shooting. I suggest you start here and start learning, there's a wealth of info and youre welcome to join and ask questions- www.whitesmoke.co.za

Errol,
You're just up the road from me! We shoot quite often, at least once a month. SA Hunters and Ihawu have muzzleloader groups. As for hunting some mates and I hunt at leat once a year with MLs! Send me a PM.

Hi Errol
I sent you a personal message with some info and contact details, your inbox is full and has rejected the message, you will need to delete some old messages, let me know if you receive it?
I personally hunt with the CVA Optima 26" barrel, the more I shoot with it the more i believe it is a great quality gun at a really reasonable price, great value for money.

Hi Smokepole,
Thanks, deleted some messages...
Haven't received the PM though.
Thanks for the info.
I like the idea of hunting with a ML.
Keen to get one when funds allow!

Re: KZN scene?
Errol, I just got my first blackpowder rifle and as soon as I can find a load my rifle likes, I'm gonna do a bit of hunting. I'm planning on bushpig and warthog, mostly as I have access to as many as I can shoot for free, but reedbuck, impala, duiker, nyala, kudu and eland might find there way into my freezer too. I'm a student in Durban but head home to PMb every other weekend to visit my parents and friends and get some shooting done!
Cheers
