HK P30L as first firearm

Hey all, I've decided to purchase my first firearm and after looking around I've really taken a liking to the HK P30L 9mm, it seems to be reliable, accurate and a generally excellent all round firearm. I intend to use it mostly for production class IPSC, as for self-defence I don't really see it being anywhere other than my bedside cupboard when not taking it to the range.

I understand though that they are pretty expensive so I would appreciate any comments, for comparison this was the shortlist I compiled when I chose it:

• HK P30L
• HK USP Tactical
• CZ 85B (I'm a lefty)
• CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical
• SIG P226

Any suggestions for good dealers in the Western Cape would also be nice.

USP is an excellent firearm but you should consider dropping it from your list since it uses a proprietary rail whereas the P30 makes use of the standard Picatinny rail - meaning you will have more choice when it comes to accessories.

Give the shadow a long look too if your primary use is for ipsc.and you can't go wrong with an hk-although my choice from your list would be the 226.

The P30L is an awesome piece of kit! I sooooo want one!
PeaceOfficer is correct in mentioning that the USP has a proprietary rail, which means the only torch that you will find that works without resorting to a rail modifier is the Insight UTL, an older tech torch using an incadecent bulb instead of the newer LED.

As for the Sig P226, also a beast, a true tack driver, but given the poor support in SA, stock up on spares and mags as and when you get them. It will serve you well, my 1983 model rocks!!!

So SIG, P30 or Shadow The proprietary rail on the USP is what made me chose the P30 over it, and it doesn't hurt that its far more comfortable, though I'm hoping to handle the SIG and Shadow before I make my final choice. Speed_Freak, I've heard about the SIG parts issues but I've also heard that there is a similar difficulty in finding HK parts, does anyone know what the real story is?

i had my old SIG220 45 completely rebuilt . any competant smith can do the job without shitting in his pants about pins and springs .

the answer to your question is yes though . HK parts are avaialble but wait is sometimes long.
