    Hi All.

I registers here on this site to try and gain a little more insight as to what happened to Marcel. I am an Ex-SAPS Wierdabrug member and worked with Marcel for 5 years. What a fantastic guy.

Sad. Most years, as many or more officers / members are lost to MVA's as to gunfire...often while trying to get to another member to back him up in a bad situation. All are Line Of Duty deaths, and all are sorely missed...

This morning a Facebook link led me to a memorials page for South African Police Officers. After reading the sotry for the member posted, I looked up a Roodepoort member I knew and had worked with in 2005, Cst. Johan Slabbert.

To say I knew him for a long time would be a lie, I'd only worked with Johan about 3 times, the last time being the Friday the week before his death. I can, however, say Johan was one of the friendliest, most dedicated and helpful PF's I'd ever worked with. This man LOVED being a policeman, took great pride in doing his job well and in portraying the police in a positive light to the public.

The SAPS lost a great asset and the world lost a great man the day you died, brother.

    RIP

For some reason I can't edit my post there to correct typos, or to add that Cst. Slabbert died in 2005, which I forgot to say.
