Cash in transit robbers flee with R395 000
Cash in transit robbers flee with R395 000
Robbers stage daring cash-in-transit heist in Durban North.
31 August 2014 12:25
Four men armed with AK47s made off with R395 000 in cash after a daring cash in transit robbery at Hyper By The Sea.
ARMED robbers staged a daring cash-in-transit heist at the Pick n Pay Hypermarket earlier this morning (Hyper By The Sea) while security personnel were loading cash into their van. Four men armed with AK47s surprised the G4S guard as he was exiting the loading bay at the busy store. He was robbed of six cases containing R395 000.
The men then jumped into their getaway vehicle, a white VW Polo with NJ registration plates and sped off.
The guard who did not want to be named said one of the armed men rushed at him from behind and jammed the AK47 into his back.
“I didn’t see them but as I exited the store I felt the gun digging into my back. They removed my pistol and my rifle and took the cases and jumped into their getaway car which was parked a few meters away. One of my colleagues chased after the men but one of them pointed his AK47 at him and cocked it,” the shaken guard said.
A police source on scene said the security guard had taken R2-million into the popular store for pension pay outs.
“The robbers seemed to know when to strike. The cases which contained the R2-million had ink dye protection (a method of staining money using a powder dye) but the cases brought out, did not,” he said.
No one was injured and police are currently searching for the suspects.

Re: Cash in transit robbers flee with R395 000
...and cocked it?
Why? Do you commit a robbery without racking your weapon beforehand?
I'd guess that there wasnt any ammo in it...
ps:You would have to far to find a store with so many dodgy types employed, my experience and opinions on our local bunch...

Re: Cash in transit robbers flee with R395 000
I thought they usually drop off 1 or 2 lookouts before coming to deliver pension payouts? Surely there should be more than 1 guard?
When they do cash deliveries/removals by us it is always 3 guys usually 1 guy pushing a big trolley full of boxes and another guy walking a few steps behind him then there is another "floater" who hovers usually out of the general publica sight.

This is a big problem for retailers who provide this payout service free to grant recipients. The government is now ignoring the problem as payouts are no longer their concern. Criminals are well aware of the cash reserves in stores now. Some stores pay out millions a day.

Re: Cash in transit robbers flee with R395 000
If a guy goes for that slide.... in my books the best time to make him munch some lead (scenario depending).
But yeah, fishy beyond stale fish.
A shop I frequent, they always do their money thing at opening time, and I usually go then because it's still quiet.
I could have held the two guards up with my car keys on almost every occasion that I've been there if I wanted to - they're not always very alert :/
