FN FAL Advice needed
I need some advice from the knowledgeable folks here. Time has come for me to say goodbye to my trusty old R1. She is a FN FAL rebarreled with a Musgrave barrel and registered as a Musgrave 308. I have 4 x 20 shot magazines and 1 30 shot, it has the reworked muzzle break as well as the scope mount slide cover and scope, both original parts are on hand. My question is what is she worth, she is in perfect nick. I will be taking her to the dealer to conduct the sale so as not to break the law but I want to get an idea of what she is worth before doing so

Looking at the lower receiver, it looks like a Fabrique Nationale d’Herstal manufactured rifle and not an R1 (genuine R1's are relatively rare). Not sure what you mean by "reworked muzzle brake" as it looks like the standard Belgian style flash hider to me. Prices on these rifles are highly variable depending upon the exact specifications of the rifle and who is buying and who is selling. On the lower end of the scale they can sell for R 5000 (in fact I bought a genuine R1 for less than that) and at the top end of the scale R 15,000 to about R 18,000. Given what you say, my sense is that the rifle has little collectability value but will probably be of interest to somebody who wishes to shoot it a fair bit. Based upon that and what I can see in the picture my guess is that you will probably get something between R 8000 and R 10,000 without too much difficulty. If you want more than that, you may have to be patient but with luck you may get it.

Re: FN FAL Advice needed
First Post an intro.
Secondly, selling her privately will not break the law.
Thirdly, Nice Rifle!
What do you think she is worth?

selling is easy;
licensing is difficult (in comparison) and that's not your problem.
iirc, you keep the weapon until it's officially and formally licensed/transferred onto his name.
im sure you can get the paperwork from any DFO.

IMHO you will get more for the rifle as a private sale than to sell it to a dealer. If you make the sale, book the gun in at a dealer, and let the new owner negotiate with the dealer regarding storage fees

Sell the rifle in original condition and offer the railed cover and scope as extras. You should get R8K for the rifle and R2K for the cover, scope value depends on what scope it is.
FWIW, I took a look at a mint condition, never been fired R1 about a week ago, seller wanted R75K, yes, 75 not a typo.Guns have only two enemies; rust and politicians.
