BLOUWILDEBEEST RIFLE BAG
Just got back from my hunt and shot a beautiful blouwildebeest. I would like to tan the skin and make a rifle bag. Any body know where i can have this done.

Re: BLOUWILDEBEEST RIFLE BAG
I also tried this as I wanted a rifle bag from MY kudu, eventually I ended up buying a rifle bag made from another Kudu skin. The tanner told me that he could not gaurantee me that my particular skin would be the one used as many skins were tanned at once. He said he could BS me but that was not his style. Although dissapointed that my kudu would not be used the bag I bought is awesome.
Good luck in your quest.

Re: BLOUWILDEBEEST RIFLE BAG
Look no further than Gametan. I personally have 2 rifle bags made by Gametan and I could not be more pleased with their work and their service. They are situated in White River close to Lifeform Taxidermy. The bloke that used to run Lifeform, a Zack I think, is now running Gametan. They specialize in skins, skull mounts etc.
Price wise you are looking at about R900 to tan the skin and a further R700 for the gun bag itself. You could have them put a bag on the side of the rifle bag itself which is big enough to fit in one box of 20 rounds of ammo. My father handed his Bluewildebees in just 3 weeks ago for the same reason.
A bit far for you but the quality of their work makes it worthwhile.

Re: BLOUWILDEBEEST RIFLE BAG
The padding seems to be of the same quality than that of commercially available bags (Perhaphs a little bit thinner). I'd be lying if I were to tell you what padding they are using. It seems that they use a 3 layer approach. 1. Skin 2. Padding 3. A type of a velt material. For more info contact gametancc@gmail.com or visit their website www.gametan.co.za
I have been using my bags for over 2 years and have never had a problem. The zips are strong and robust, the bags appearance is pleasing and padding is adequte. My only complaint is that the front sight of the 9,3 keeps catching on the inner material + the Kudu bag leaves hairs all over the interior of the car.

Re: BLOUWILDEBEEST RIFLE BAG
I had a rifle bag made at the leather shop in blairgowrie. Also from a tanned wildebees hide. I had hair removed and died in the tanning process. Try kwiktan in krugerdorp. When you have the leather the shop can copy your favourite rifle bag using components and padding you specify. The shop is at the bottom of conrad drive opposite nandos. Speak to emily. Not cheap but excellent workmanship.
