    Dave sheer has the 870s going for R6500 taking 4 rounds and you can get an extended tube for R795 that then takes 7 rounds.

    I guess that might be worth saving up for.

    My big question was whether to go pump action or semi auto. From the comments it seems the pump action is better.

    Can anybody tell me what the average shell count is in an IDPA match?

    Just make sure the extended tube does not extend beyond the barrel as that is not IDPA legal. As far as round count goes you can only have 12 rounds on gun and person per stage so work on that as a guide. Between 2 - 4 shotgun stages per shoot so probably around 50 rounds max for a shoot.

    I have both, a pump and a semi. If you asked me to only have 1, the semi will always be my choice.

    So if I got a 870 mahala in brand new condition for SSG and I bought a M2 for the ESG division then I would be good to go with possibly the two best options???

    These are at Nic Yale, looks solid and the Itaes know shotguns. Maybe its an option plus NY give good service.

    But, I picked up a 1300 for a really good price. Still waiting on the licence, but so far I'm very happy with it. Adding a pistol grip forend from ATI soon. If you can buy a 1300/870. Good shotties and lots of accessories available for them.

    Remington 1100 Tac 4 is an unbelievable piece of equipment! Shot 2 matches with mine and ran like a dream. Shot in excess of 1000 shells without any hickups!

    I'll be VERY careful before considering a saiga, dodgy a best, and I've seen more that one in action. Neither fed a full mag without some drama...

    Paddy;

    If you can, try out that pistol grip fore end before you buy...they mostly suck on pump-guns. PG stocks are different but the PG pump fore end is a bad idea IMO.
