Remember to check your cleaning rod afterwards...
I witnessed something k*k funny at Safari & Outdoor in Stellenbosch on Friday afternoon.
There's this old guy with a real plattelandse accent taking his rifle out of its bag. Then the story unfolds...
Apparently he gave the barrel a few "deurtrekke" with the cleaning rod with the rifle still in its bag. As you all know, those brass fittings at the front around which you wrap the pull-through lappies tend to turn themselves loose of the thread of the cleaning rod, meaning you have to retighten them every few times you pull the cleaning rod back and forth.
Well, he didn't. Not only did our oom not notice that the brass fitting wasn't fastened to the cleaning rod any more when he eventually pulled it out and put it away, he put the bolt back in again.
And, wait for it, reloaded the rifle some time later and pulled the trigger... the rifle thankfully has a very thick bull barrel and incredibly enough it didn't blow up. But I witnessed him and a gunsmith doing paperwork for a new barrel.

PS: Daar's nie pille vir domgeit nie.

Not very bright but schadenfreude is not an admirable trait.

I have heard people say they shoot their barrels clean, must be one of those.

Witness same at basics in the army. Lt, SM, Sgt and some 1 stripers (l/c) tried to kill him all at the same time. Unfortunately they left enough of it to the RSM. Wonder if he ever left Pretoria.
