Default 416 rem or 416 rigby

Hi, which one should I go for, both seem to have similar ballistics, terminal performance, and recoil, with factory loads. This rifle will be purely for buffalo hunts. Thanx

It is six of the one and half a dozen of the other, at the end of the day it boils down to personal preference. Just my 2c

As far as I know the rigby operates as lower pressure.

Personally I would go for the Rigby. Proven track record, nostalgic value, a great cartridge from the golden age of professional hunting and safaris! Harry Selby spoke/wrote very highly of this cartridge!

I have been dreaming about this question...maybe when I turn 40 and hit a midlife crisis I'll have a rigby built!

Took the words right out of my mouth! Lower pressure on the rigby, if you're going costom rifle the longest possible action, needed for the rigby as too much metal would have to be removed from std lenght actions like m98. But in the end it comes to personal preferance/ availability of factory ammo from you're local dealer!

I would say go for the .416 Remington Magnum. I have one and have hunted buffalo with it. Very very effective. The Remington has a shorter cartridge which means a shorter stroke when cycling the rifle bolt. Very handy when you need to do quick back-up shot. Pressures are higher in the Remington but does not really mean anything with the strength of modern actions of today.

I would and I am going to go for a .416 Rigby. My only problem is that I need it in a left hand bolt. So custom here I come.

Your other option is the .416 Ruger (a 375 Ruger case necked up to accept a .416 bullet). Does not have the history of the Rigby, but all reports on it looks good.....
