I got an email of some okes who shot a springbuck (338m) and a Black Wildebeest (426m) in the Freestate with a Truvelo .50 cal sniper rifle. They used FMJ's as they could not find hunting bullets in the calibre. Apparently very little meat damage.

That being said I can't see why you cannot motivate one for long range sport shooting. IIRC nothing in the law prohibits it...

    Hi Guys

I just shot a few rounds yesterday with the Steyr 50. and it was an awesome experience for me! It is a really nice rifle that besides for it's weight is very easy to handle and the action is great! That rifle is awesome and the kick is definately a lot less than that of a .300! This gun retails for around R 95000 I believe.

The owner of this gun got his license no probs, he is a dedicated hunter only and motivated it for big bore comps and target comps. That is all the info I have regarding the motivation.

I believe those people who say these rifles are overkill, a waste of money, bottomless pits and what ever have never shot one before!

I had the opportunity to shoot a Truvelo .50 last year, and I would LOVE to own one. It has so much presence, and the recoil is more of a push than a kick… Shooting the .308 directly after the .50… the .308 sounded like a .22
