Importing brass casings?

Hi all.

I just wanted to find out if it is possible to import brass casings without the paper work you would need to import live ammunition?

If so is it just a matter of ordering, paying and shipping?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Imo the short answer is no - all that you would not need is a SAPS import permit.

All the other red tape will be applicable especially from the USA.

So if importing from the USA it would be up to the supplier to organize paper work ect?

Yes if they are prepared to do that and most probably also the USD250 export permit app fee.

Also end user certificate etc etc.

Dude are these some unique unobtainable cases that you would need to try and go the US route?

Ok so it would seam like unless you are importing huge volumes it not worth going through the rigmarole.

Are there local manufactures?

Not at all Bundu Ric, I am just really interested in the processes and procedures involved and thought some of the more knolagable Gunsite users could share a bit of insight on the ins and outs.

Check with importers like Formalito, Nicholas Yale etc who imports rifle brass about the pros and cons. I am not sure if anyone imports pistol brass.

Imo if you import brass you will need to do it surface mail because of the weight and relative air freight costs pertaining to weight.

OK, hate to be the one that says it but yes, you can import brass cases. I've been doing it for years. No minimum order required and no special paperwork etc. etc. You just buy it online from the guys in the states and they ship it to you. You have your option of once fired brass (mucho cheap - wouldn't go that way for rifle brass) or brand new brass. The supplier I use mostly has Starfire as their 'new brass' brand.

They'll be happy to ship up too 20lbs of brass per order but I think for that volume you will need an import permit and/or clearing agent on our side for that bulk.

however my last order was 400 x 308 brass, 500 x 40S&W brass and it went through customs and paid my duties and no biggy or hassles. Just make sure the new brass isn't primed. Primed (not fired live primer) brass is ammo according to our act.
