Gardener shot for bicycle
I just received terrible news.
Our gardener, a man in his early 40's, was shot near Woodlands in Pretoria on Saturday night and robbed of his bicycle. He is currently in the ICU at Steve Biko Academic, and by the sounds of it the operation to remove the bullet(s) has been successful. I have no real details of the incident, apart from that only his bike was stolen and he was shot in the process.
He has been working for my parents in Pretoria for nearly 20 years, and I grew-up around him, so this really hits home hard. He is a South African national, not an immigrant, so xenophobia is not a motive. He is just another victim of crime in this bloodthirsty country! I wish him the speediest of recoveries.
If he doesn't make it through, we will be absolutely devastated. He is one of the best human beings I know.
