    Default Why be RE-ACTIVE??

Im posting this thread but this is really irritating the living SH*t outta me!!!

A couple of months back, Ive recently got involved in a friends gun shop, doing the sales and marketing for him. Long story short...

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY PEOPLE ONLY WANT FIREARMS AFTER SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED TO THEM??

I argue with people on a daily basis about this. They feel they dont need a gun at all for protection and the outlook on the licensing procedure is "SUCH A MISSION NOWADAYS" AND ''ALL LICENSES ARE STILL BEING REFUSED" OR "MY WIFE IS GONNA KAK HER PANTS IF I GET ONE"

and these are just many of the "EXCUSES" I hear

    But yet....

Let them be a victim of crime they come running for a gun!

Instances where THESE JA BRU'S come in and going to buy this Glock and this shotgun never to be seen again only when somethings happened to them or a family member.

'' I need a gun now because house was burgled" or "I need a gun because the guy next door was hi jacked" not that a gun would have helped in any of these instances but it would be a bit late if they break into your house and rape your wife and daughter in front of you!!

My point im trying to make is that US as members and guests on the forum need to make people more aware of the dangers and the reality of crime affecting us and by speaking to your friends and family about responsible gun ownership and protecting the lives of our friends and family and by not BEING VICTIMS

I dont believe that excuse "I cant afford a gun" If you want something so bad you will make a plan even if it mean saving R100 rand a week from the time you 18,works out to R15600 by the time you 21 excluding birthday, christmas money and any "holiday" jobs. Unfortunatley it is the country we've choosen to live in and its a way of life.

feel free to add and rant on the above post...

I think its human nature, you are fighting a loosing battle.

I moved into a new house and one of the first things i did was install security gates. The first thing the salesman asked me was "when did they break in?". People always do things after the fact.

The difference between them and us is we have chosen not be a victim and then they call us paranoid.

Exactly!, i'll give you another example, My mom lives by herself. I got the alarm company to put beams everywhere even in the roof. The technician told me its the first house he has ever put beams into the roof, they have only done businesses in the past. I could see he thinks i'm a bit of a nutter, but he works in the security industry, you would think he of all people would recommend it.

Thats why i reckon its human nature. We have become complacent with criminals, meanwhile they are 20 steps ahead of us.

Great post! I hear those excuses far too often, and then to try justify there reasoning its often followed by anti gun statements, till something happens. With regards to affordability,I'm a student ,and had to do exactly that, put away and save for a LONG time before I could make my purchase. There are many people out there with an average salary and use the affordability excuse, I believe it is possible to buy it,even if it takes a while. As much as I'd like to call myself an enthusiast,I'm not in a position to own more than one gun at this stage and just throw around cash on accessories, but I did see the need for an SD gun ages ago. I know many people who feel "safe" without being armed/taking the steps, even after having spoken to them. They live under the illusion the 4m high wall, electric fencing, and security company will keep them safe under any situation. Those are merely deterrents, and you should go beyond that. As the man/provider of the house, you should prepare and train to protect yourself and your family BEFORE something happens.

Many people have a false sense of security and refuse to take responsibility for their own or anyone else. You see it all the time. When there are a few burglaries or hi-jackings in your neighbourhood, see how many people pitch up at the CPF meeting, wanting to go on patrol, requesting guards on patrol etc. When the neighbourhood becomes safe again everyone has disappeared, few want to attend meetings, patrols fall apart and their community spirit has evaporated.

Like I said in another post South Africans have the "It won't happen to me" mentality, so they they just sit and do nothing, and when something does happen all they can do is freeze up ,like sheep, all you can do is arm yourselves and try to arm and train everyone you meet, but its their decision wether or not to do it, its a decision with consequences and they are the ones that will have to live with them.

And after the breaking/hijacking that compelled them to buy a firearm, it gets locked up in the safe. Still the same "it won't happen to me" mentality.
