Springfield's new XD M
While examining the pros and cons of the Glock 21 gen4 and the M&P 45, I noticed that Springfield has brought out something that may also be worth a look. http://www.the-m-factor.com/html/specs_8.html
The XD M 5.25 is a long-barrel, high cap (13) .45. Apparently, Rob Leatham had input in the design, which aims quite a bit at competitive shooting. It's a fine looking pistol, with a grip that seems well thought out (did you hear that, Glock?), a nice long sight radius with fully adjustable rear sight and fiber optic front sight, and a short trigger pull. It's got a cocked indicator similar to the Walther P99 (I find that very useful), and a lot of novel design features on the slide. For some unfathomable reason they decided to keep a grip safety, which is a pity as the grip looks like the best feature.
Seems to be retailing around the same price (more or less) as the Glock and M&P, well under the HK 45.
Anyone had any experience with this weapon? Handled it, shot it? I'm thinking home defense and CDP shooting in terms of use.

Re: Springfield's new XD M
I stand to be corrected but I don't believe that anyone carries these in SA.

To my knowledge there is no springfield agents in SA at this time so no you can't have one, you will have to get a Glock like everyone else ;P

Re: Springfield's new XD M
Dave Sheer had the XD in 9mmP iirc.
keep an eye in the sky, an ear to the ground and a round in the chamber.

Re: Springfield's new XD M
A few years ago Keith Dyer reviewed the Croation HS2000 pistol for Magnum. Springfield has a licence to produce these, and this is the XD (to the best of my knowledge). You might trying contacting Magnum or digging through old issues to see who stocked that pistol.
