New license - what is the latest average turnaround time?
I have been reading with great interest that CFR is speeding up.
Yesterday I submitted my licence application at the Police Station. I would like the rifle for a hunt on the 6th of October which effectively leaves 8 weeks in which CFR needs to do their thing.
Should I be applying for a section 21? My last license took 6 weeks.

Not sure on a rifle but, self defence handguns now take 2 months, and that's competency and licence total! Spread the word!

Andrew, monitor its progress carefully, and if 3 weeks before the hunt you don't have it yet, try a S21. I'm pretty sure you'll get it before then, though...

Re: New license - what is the latest average turnaround time?
My SD app just took 6 months from beginning (competency) to end (license approved) - Eastern Cape. Trick is to find someone who can help you and keep them on your side. My application was lost, CFR let me know, I resubmitted everything that same day via email and the license was approved at 08:30 the next morning. Lot's of phone calls and emails involved though. My app was at consideration for 2 months before they let me know that they had lost it and asked me to resend everything (I suppose at least they called to inform me).
