    Default 378 Weatherby

    Hi Guys

Anybody on this forum own a 378 Weatherby? If so do you enjoy the rifle and where do you purchase components for reloading etc?

Dont own one, but had the opportunity to shoot one. You need to befriend a dentist and a choropractitioner, because it shakes everything loose. Maybe not so bad if you are shooting at something that wants to stomp/gouge/eat you. If you want, it will even help you develop a flinch!

Checked it out on the net it apparently only offers 10% more recoil than the 375 H+H but with much greater performance results. Apparently it can push a 300gn bullet at close to 3000 fps (sounds scary to me)!

    hehehe

Long range shooting: I'd take either the 7mmSTW, the 338-378 Weatherby or the 378 Weatherby.

    338-378: 300gr at 3010fps... RRRRTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!

What you wanna do with it?

I've subsequently been offered the rifle for what seems a good price. My only concern is component availability, as most of us know the calibre isn't that well known locally.

If I do get it I'll keep it handy for one of the big game hunts I plan on doing in the hopefully not too distant future! Don't plan on using it as my favourite plains game rifle!!!!!!

Kalahari arms has ammo at about R300 a shot!!!!
First shoot that thing (only way to describe it) and then decide if you still want it.
Think that website meant kicks 10X harder not 10%.
Have heard peoples have gone blind from blood in the eyes after shooting it, although i shot a 460 weatherby the other day and didny kick too bad

I have a 340, and it is not fun to shoot off a bench. Offhand not too bad.

You can always download it to 375 H&H speeds but when starting to go after bigger stuff I would suggest using the heavier 350 and 380 gr bullets and run them at 2400 fps then you will have the same energy as an 416 Rigby. Check if you can get empty cases and dies from the owner I would say go fo it once you have the components you will be fine.

I have a bunch of Aussie friends wo live by their weatherbys and they are all happy with it.
