Re: Cap and ball and new regulations
What are the regulations on exporting an antique firearm to the USA? I have read that they do not have to licence antique firearms and if bad comes to worse and I am expected to carve a number on my revolver, I would rather have it exported to the USA to a friend who lives there. Maybe even the UK as they also don't need to licence antique firearms to my knowledge

Re: Cap and ball and new regulations
Be careful when exporting to outside of RSA.
USA - Depends on the state.
UK - not allowed an antique firearm capable of firing a projectile.

Awesome! Thanks for that link, I spent the whole afternoon looking for info and I missed the only one I actually needed and found useful info from. Now to find out how to prove that it is in fact an antique firearm and was manufactured before 1898. So far I only have the original letter from a registered gunsmith

Re: Cap and ball and new regulations
I know I should wait and see what happens with the transitional arrangements, if they do come into effect. But I don't want to wait too long and am I being stupid about this whole thing, wanting to preserve an original piece of history as is by any means necessary. Just out of interest, this specific cap and ball revolver is about 135 years old, give or take according to its age estimate. I just want to keep it in it's original state by preserving it and not damage it in any way. Not going to shoot with it and don't want to have any sort of number stamped on it either
