SAPS Form 518 - Section 21 Temporary Authorization
HI All
Not sure if this has been discussed, So I applied for my first firearm on section 13 (Self Defence), I used to shoot sport at one stage of my life with my dad so always used his firearm and the club we used always had .22 pistols for us. (Note I was around 13/15 at the time).
Now I am older and wiser and would like to go back to sport shooting. So I have the club forms and get quiet a few benefits like free use of the range for X months etc. However all i have to shoot is my pellet gun LOL. So can one make use of a concenting parties firearm for range/sport shooting on the SAPS Form 518 - Section 21 Temporary Authorization?
Here is the form http://www.saga.org.za/SAPS%20518%20Form.pdf
To me I am sure it says i can just looking for a 2nd opnion here.
WayneI hack for charity, Shoot for fun!

The Section 21 permit has been discussed...see above link.
Theoretically you can obtain a Section 21 temp permit in the way you want to get one. It is a possibility and I would say that you have nothing to lose (Except the R140.00 for the application and the time and effort to do the application and the cost of follow up calls) to submit a application and see what the CFR say. It will all boil down to your motivation. My personal opinion is that your change is lower of obtaining a Section 21 permit:-
1. If you are a South African and have not gotten a competency certificate as yet.
2. If you do not have licences for other firearms as yet.
This is my opinion and not how I read and understand the act. I just think that your changes of being successful is lower but not impossible.
As I say...go for it....what do you have to lose but you lose?
Just some advice.....
Do not rely on the space of the form to put in your motivation. In this space say "See Attached Motivation" and for a proper motivation giving as much as possible information and reasons why you need the firearm. Just saying "it is for Sport Shooting" does not take you to far. Expand on your experience of handling firearms, your membership to a club, your planned frequency of shooting, your intention to obtain Dedicated Sport Status and whatever you can add to enhance a positive picture about yourself.
