Sierra 150gr OH in .30 cal
I went to the range yesterday to refine my loads for my .308 but just before I left home I quickly loaded 4 150gr Prohunters with 42gr 335. I shot the SMKs and was happy with what I got and then for sh1ts and giggles I tried the Prohunters. I got the fright of my life when the 4 shot group measured 12mm. I could not believe that they Prohunters could outperform the SMKs. Does anyone know anything about these bullets and their terminal performance? They appear to be as accurate as the SMKs and are a whole lot cheaper.

Re: Sierra 150gr OH in .30 cal
Myself and my brother shoot 150gr Pro hunters with 42.5gr 335 and CCI primers.
They took three Springbok in July and performed well. We also use them for veldskiets and can easily shoot 10mm, 3 shot groupings with them (from the bench).
Up to 250m they perform well but when you hit 300m they seem to shoot higher.
I remember reading and finding that they hit higher at 300m. If hunting long range i would go for the gamekings

Seems like you stumbled onto a very accurate load by accident (well a calculated accident as you had some data and excperience to work with)!
Chrono the load and if it is good use it to hunt with!

Re: Sierra 150gr OH in .30 cal
Hi Dave,
the Pro Hunter does not have a boat tail shape but a flat base. On shorter distances (they say up to 300m) this actually improves accuracy. I have read that the exit from the barrel is more predicatable with flat bases, whether that is true or not I don't knw.
The boat tail design apparently reduces drag over longer distances, however was reading this weekend and one 1000yd record was set with flat base bullets.
Nice groups though, well done.

i have spoken to 2 other friends of mine and they also echo the sentiment about these bullets being very accurate indeed. They also have a reputation for awesome terminal performance. The only downside is the longrange falloff becuase of the lower BC. I am going to give these a really serious field test - starting next week with hogs and Fallow deer.
Tough job but someone must do it.

Re: Sierra 150gr OH in .30 cal
Dave, the Pro Hunters are very accurate bullets and over normal hunting distances (say up to 350m) do very well, because of the flat base design. They do have a lower BC than their boat tail equivalents so are affected more by wind.
My son used them in his .308 with great success.
