I've got an 88 for the past 20 years. Straight and honest weapon. Works as advertised. Spoiled mine with a folding stock and a heatshield.

The 'new' Mavericks are unlike their ancestors.

The single, easily twisted, action bar has made way for double action bars which now terminate directly in the nylon fore-end.

The nylon trigger group doesn't fill me with joy, but you get what you pay for.

The Maverick Tienie ran on Ross' course yesterday flew through 300 rounds flawlessly.

    That's the one.

Had a few shots with her - nice.

How easy is it to get mag extensions and a side saddle?

It 'would' be easy if the TacStar importer brought in more than a handful a year... <koff>

Best friend's father shoots a Mossberg M88. Shotguns I've fired most rounds out of by far. Not a single issue with the weapon, shoots well and everything is to be expected. For the price I think it's a good weapon and a worthy purchase. I'll be looking at them when choosing a shotgun for myself as well, after I've taken a look at the more tactical weapons like the 870 or similars!

I have had my Maverick for about 6 months now. The misses has put about 200 through it and myself about 50. I have had zero problems with firing it and/or extraction issues. The action is a bit stiffer than your Defenders and 870's but for the money you pay for it it is a lot of gun.
It comes with dual extractors, so you don't have trouble getting rounds out of the chamber even if it is some of the hotter hunting loads you get from Europe. There is aftermarket stocks available for the Maverick, just buy for the Mossberg 500.

At 3k I will grab it.

+100. You can get a decent 1300 for the same price as a new 88, get the 1300; you'll thanks T and I later.

Would it be considered a good deal if I can get a second hand Maverick 88 for R1000.00?
Its in great condition. It's only been used for 2-3 bird hunts.
