Re: AK Pron - Calling all AK experts
Huh. I did not realise I had not posted in this thread.
Saiga EXP03.
ATI grip
ATI railed handguard
Midwest Industries rear sight Aimpoint Micro mount, lower 1/3
4MOA Aimpoint H1
Krebbs selector (Unfortunately an AK selector, not a Saiga one, the detent is in a different place so this scratches the finish oh noez!)
200 lumen Surefire E2D with aftermarket LED in a Vikings Tactics polymer light mount.
Some OEM Saiga mags, some SureFire mags. I have a bullet guide for the AK mags but have not had time to fit it yet.
Since the light has been replaced with a Klarus 800 lumen light. It is still working after almost 2000 rounds, even though it has dinky little springs and a 18650.

Re: AK Pron - Calling all AK experts
Because someone put 21st century technology on his 1940's gun? Seriously?
For interest sake the AKM and M16A1 entered service within 3 years of each other. Both the AK-104 and M4 entered service in 1994. Why is it a crime to bling one out and not the other?

Re: AK Pron - Calling all AK experts
Guys, excuse the ignorance... but how do AK47s end up in 'civilian hands' in SA?
Here where I work in Zambia our wildlife rangers are kitted out with every variety of AK imaginable, most of them confiscations recovered from poachers or criminals (i.e. Angolan or DR Congo origin) and put back into service. They are put through a shocking lack of care... I've seen them dropped on concrete floors, fall overboard boats, they never get oiled, they get covered in salt and mieliemeal and charcoal from leaky ration packs... and still I've yet to see any rust on one. They only occasionally misfire...
I don't like them, but for something that looks and feels and is used like a cheap chinese bicycle, they sure seem to be able to withstand some punishment!
