18 Year old matric girl shot dead in hijacking in Springs.

18-year-old Minke Aucamp was shot and killed outside her home in Eastvale this afternoon during a hijacking.

Police are fairly confident as to the identity of the suspect - a man who apparently already has a warrant out for his arrest after he was let out on bail on previous hijacking charges.

The young girl was shot in her face, allegedly at point blank range, with the bullet exiting the back of her head.

The scene outside the house in Lainsberg Road was extremely busy with paramedics from Life, Netcare 911, Trico, ER24 and government emergency services all working to save the girl's life.

The victim, in a critical condition, was transported by ambulance to a park a block away where a chopper was waiting to airlift her to the Union Hospital in Alberton.

The hijacker escaped in her silver Hyundai.

The police on scene stated that they have been in pursuit of the suspect for some time and will continue regualr patrols to find the man known to be terrorising Springs' residents.

Aucamp, a matric pupil at Dr Johan Jurgens High School, apparently died in the chopper, shortly before it landed.

This one is very close to home for me. And our local CPF have raised a R50 000 reward for anyone who leads us to the guy. 20 000 copies of the wanted pamphlet have been distributed to high density areas near by via a light aircraft.

I never had the heart to go to the funeral. I drove into the vicinity of the church and when I saw the sheer amount of people in tears. My anger got the better of me. This has set our community off. Enough is enough!!

So I think it struck a nerve with some of the high ranks. I am in total shock as to what scum of the earth coward could do this to an 18 year old girl!! Who didnt have a mean streak in her!

This makes me so sad and angry at the same time. She was just starting with her life and now this animal-so-called-human-being just took it within a split second.

The thing that really gets my goat is that it is all senseless!! FFS the guy has a gun she is a defenseless girl...why does he not take the car and leave. Why the senseless shot in the face.....Lord give me strength!!...and Glock be my tool....I ask only 5min with this perp...thats all just 5 mins

They are now investigating a link between her father who worked for Correctional services and the criminals.
