What scope to buy?
Hi all,
I am looking to purchase a new scope to mount on my .375H&H...
Due to the fact that I sometimes use it to take longer shots I want to invest in a 3-9x40 or something very similar. I would love to pick out a brand new Zeiss or Smidt & Bender but it is above my budget...
Researching scopes showed me there are allot of brands that is very close in terms of their pricings on a 3-9x40 scope...
Leupold VX1 was my first choice out but now the Burris and Rudolph scopes also caught my attention, then Redfield and Weaver are also well know and price differences between these five brands on a 3x9 is not that much to swing my vote...
I would like to hear your opinions and what you would recommend?

Re: What scope to buy?
Leupold VX1. No nonsense warranty & backup - the best there is. Also for a 375, you need the longest eye relief possible which the Leupold has. Best value for money, handles recoil superbly, excellent glass, solid construction & will last forever. I've tried Lynx, Tasco Titan, Vortex, Bausch & Lomb on my 338WM & went back to my VX2.

If budget allows go VX2 rather than VX1.

Re: What scope to buy?
The VX 1 is good value for money... I currently have Lynx, Zeiss, Burris, Tasco, and now 2 x VX1 leupolds, and 1x VX3.... One other thing, if you will ever use your rifle for dangerous game/ thick bush, it might be good to think of quality Quick release mounts.. Unless you get scope, like 1.5- 6, or something. I had 1.5-6 Lynx on my own 375 for bushveld hunting, but when I got to the Freestate, I put 4-12 Leupold. As with all things, the more you pay, the more you get.

I fully understand the budget thing, and those vx1 models cost between 2500 and 3000. That is a lot of money, but what's nice about the leupold is the garrentee, reputation and build quality. In terms of scopes you get a lot for you're money. So good choice there.
But now regarding you're caliber, I guess you'll be doing a lot of hunting in bush. Would it not be better to get the 3-9x50 for the wider angle of view and better light capturing.
Other than that I enjoy my vx1, up to 200 meter I have not been dissapointed. Haven't taken any shots further than that yet with that scope.

My good friend recently got a .375H&H
He put a Leuplod VX2 3-9 x 40 (LR Reticle)
I am so impressed with this set up, that I'm gonna do the exact same
when I get me a .375

A friend has the Burris on his .375.
If I had to buy a scope today, it would be a Burris.
