The CED M2 is the way to go. That way you'll only ever have to buy one chrony.

In the case of chrony's, buying cheap is truly buying kak.

Give Jonathan at Shooting Stuff a call. It's a regular stock item there. They deliver.

I am quite happy with my shooting chrony F1. It's not an item that will be used every day, so I decided on the "cheap" one.

Mine is about 7 years old and still going strong.

To necro an old thread (Rather than start a new one), I phoned Shooting Stuff and the CED M2 is now over R3k (I was too gob-smacked to remember the hundreds part).

Have any decent alternatives come onto the market in the last year or so, or is there somewhere the CED M2 could be had for cheaper?

If it was only for rifle- MagnetoSpeed Sporter.
For handgun you need MS v3. They are fairly expensive but are easy and very quick to set up.
Local agents are Fishers and Shooters AFAIK.

I am happy with my Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph Premium Kit no complaints here. Also like the Caldwell app with my iPad or iPhone. (Imported for R2 100). Love the infrared light kit it comes with for indoors chrono. (Included in the kit, as an add-on about $50)
