Re: Help. What chrono?
The CED M2 is probably about the best of the conventional chrony's ( besides an Oehler)
Bonedoc said it in a previous post
Rifle only - Magnetospeed Sporter
Rifle and Pistol (if budget is not a constraint) Magnetospeed V3
The magnetospeed is just so convenient. Minimal set up time. Dont have to worry about distance to the muzzle. Dont have too worry about rain, overcast weather etc. Is also accurate at an indoor range.

Re: Help. What chrono?
I got myself the Caldwell precision G2. What made the difference for me was that it’s ‘upside down’, in other words, the sensors are facing down so don’t get affect d by ambient light. This does mean that the lights supplied must always be used, but I found it pretty reliable so far. They’re pricey, but it’s the kinda thing you buy once. I also like the fact that it’s BT capable, so no wires running from the chrony to the phone. The included app is also pretty good.
Just a tip, the included tripod is utter crap...

Re: Help. What chrono?
I faced a similar situation, I ended up getting a Prochrono digital. Works fine for my purposes, both gun and bow use.

Re: Help. What chrono?
Prochrono works for me as a pistol chrony.

Re: Help. What chrono?
Thanks for the feedback, so far.
What defines the product as more rifle- or pistol-suited?

Re: Help. What chrono?
All work well for both, except magnetospeed sporter.
The magnetospeeds mount directly to the barrel, thus isn't suitable for a pistol. The v3 has an attachment to use for pistols with a rail. I have also seen custom "rests" to use MS with a pistol.

Re: Help. What chrono?
Thanks, the Magnetospeed V3 looks like the most compact, hassle-free solution, from what I've seen on YouTube.
Let's see if I still feel that way, once I've found out a price
I would need to be able to mount it to the rail of a Glock 19 and also to a rifle suppressor.
I just wonder how it copes with a smoking-hot suppressor or rifle barrel?

Re: Help. What chrono?
I abandoned my CED chronograph for a Labradar. The best chronograph by FAR. Not sensitive to cloudy conditions. Nice to chronograph shots while shooting at a 1500m targets.

Re: Help. What chrono?
The Magnetospeed V3 (USD342 - Brownells) looks like the ultimate in ease of use, but the only thing that's putting me off is possible product damage from barrel heat build-up as more and more shots are fired.
How many rounds could one squeeze off during any typical load development test session?
Do any MS V3 owners have any comment or recommendations in this regard?

Re: Help. What chrono?
So further research, including correspondence with the manufacturers of the Magnetospeed V3, indicates that a very hot barrel or suppressor will melt whatever parts of the product are in contact.
It would seem to work better on an AR, mounted to the rail with their adaptor.
