Value of Franchi Semi Auto
Hi Guys.
A friend of mine is pushing 71 years of age with a faulty heart and is wanting to start getting his affairs in order before shuffling off.
He currently has a Franchi 12G Semi Auto Shotgun that he wants me to consider buying from him so I need to know approximately what the value is before making an offer.
It only says Franchi on the back of the stock with no model numbers that I can see on it. It seems to have an extended shell tube and sticks out past the muzzle by about 10mm, im not sure how many rounds it holds as he has no ammo for it. I fired about 100 shells through it around two years back and it worked flawlessly. From some searching on the net it looks like a model 48 with an extended shell holder but im not 100% sure.
He says it has maybe seen 500 rounds in its life. The back stock is synthetic and the front grip stock has a hollow plastic sound to it..........not sure if that is normal.
He only has the old License for it and did not renew on the advice of a friend of his who is a judge, will this affect me being able to license it?
If I dont take it he will leave it to his son who currently lives in the US and doesn't plan on coming back anytime soon so it will be lost.here are a few pics I was able to take this weekend.
Please could you help with a value and let me know what a fair offer would be.
I don't have competency for a shotgun yet but do have DSS

Re: Value of Franchi Semi Auto
I have the same gun and paid R2k for it in 2007. It was virtually brand new.
They are awesome shotguns i love mine. My mag tube ends just before the barrel and holds 8 rounds in the mag tube plus 1 up. I would imagine the extended mag tube will hold 9.Last edited by ady; 14-01-2013 at 15:40.

Re: Value of Franchi Semi Auto
Thank you!
I really thought it would be worth more than that.
I suspect he is going to tell me to go and F myself if I offer him R2k for it he can be a rather grumpy old man at times.

Not a 48, which are recoil operated.
This looks like a 500 series.
Is it a 2 or a 4 port gun? You will have to strip it to see.
Bought one in mint condition about a year and a half back for R3500. Probably a fair price.Cattle die, kindred die, every man is mortal:

Re: Value of Franchi Semi Auto
Mine has 4 ports. I sent a fax to Franchi in Italy with my serial number to try find out what model it is. They had no record of my serial number, it seems that they have no records of their earlier guns.
My owners manual also has no model number.

Re: Value of Franchi Semi Auto
I have a virtually identical one with 4 ports that take 8 in the tube. It works well with slugs,LG,SSG etc, but does not like light loads such as Eley no 7

Re: Value of Franchi Semi Auto
all of the prices are on track and if i were you i would take it in a heart beat.
just recently the very same (2 port ) model went for 8K
demand is increasing so snap it up either way.
the wood is very good quality walnut and sounds plastic - if it breaks (due to owners clumsiness) it can be repaired so sweat.
i like to see a picture of the plastic butt end . franchi logos varied there and is interesting to see what you have.
please do not force the lever to open the action if its stuck . using excess force will break it or bend it.
all springs can be sourced locally from local spring makers if need be. firing pin can be cast or turned (good to keep spare)
when removing things take careof the rubber gasket and dont cut it on re assembly.
you will not get any luck with the factory because the was a huge batch assembled in RSA in Benoni?? during the sanction era .
if you dont take the gun , I will buy it from you.
good luck.. it is a fantastic gun!!live out your imagination , not your history.

Do you want to see a picture of my butt?
There is no logo on my guns butt end. Just says Franchi.
