    Default Military Surplus .223/5.56

    Hi all

I can get some milltary surplus ammo. It is stamped M1A3/M1A4. What is the diffrence between the two. Is one maybe 55gr and the other 62gr or something similar to that.

    Thanks David.

You mean stamped on the box?

AFAIK all SA military ammo is 55gr. The 62gr ammo may be a bit heavy for the 1:12 barrel twist.

All the 5.56 SA surplus I have ever seen / shot was berdan primed. Excellent ammo, just not worth trying to reload in the practical sense. Figure that into any price you were given, but if the price is decent I would be all over it like white on rice!

Others here can probably advise on the difference in markings on the boxes but I would grab all I could get of either if it was me.

It's for a mini14 and a LM4. And the price is reasonable but the bank won't allow me to take all I want. So it's safe to say its 55gr bullets.

    Thanks guys.

M1A3 is the same as M193 the USA designation, I don't know about M1A4?!? I've heard of it though

Verify if the 5.56 is ok in your mini 14. I've seen mil' surplus @ R200 per 30.
