    Default 303 needs brother!!!

What would you guys say should I get to join my 303? I was thinking of a 270? Mainly for small to medium game. Kudu and Wildebeest tops. The 270 should be great for long distance on springbuck and blesbuck. Help me decide. I am still young and 'nat agter die ore' when it comes to this.

Where do you hunt and generally what do you shoot?

Lately I've been hunting in the freestate springbuck, blesbuck, 'swartwildebees'. Have been using .243 I'm happy with the 303 in the bush - impala, wildebeest. I believe the 270 is versatile?

Ruda, get something that you will be comfortable with, do not choose a rifle because your friend has a 300Winchester Short Magnum.
Think about what you would like to hunt and choose accordingly. If you end up with a rifle with substantial recoil this might just put you off shooting or make you develop bad habits, such as flinching the shot.
A rifle in .308 would pretty much do everything you would want from it, recoil is relatively insignificant and you could apply it in bushveld hunting as well as plains hunting.
Remember, the faster the bullet, the higher the chances of meat damage.

I agree with ThomasT. Get a rifle you are comfortable shooting. I love the 270 and reading your requirements I think it is the right call for you. A 243 is a little bit light in extreme conditions (although I own one and swear by it) and the 270 gives you the edge if you need it. Trust me when I tell you that there is no non-dangerous game that you cannot successfully drop with a well placed 270 bullet. The 308 is also great and is tried and tested as well and will not let you down. The 243 is a 308 necked down to take a 6mm bullet so be careful to use the right cartridge in the right rifle. Be careful of the same problem with the 270 and the 30-06. Go for the 270 you will not be sorry - ignore the meat damage by shooting in the ribs for double lung shots or in the head. Enjoy.

    If you have a 303, I would get a 270W.

I would go for the 270 winchester, 130 gr for the small critters and 150 gr for the bigger ones. Shot my first Kudu with a 270, it can definately take larger game without problems.
