Default Re-Profiling a rifle barrel to cut some weight

Can a rifle barrel be re-profiled to cut some weight without risking accuracy?

As soon as you touch the barrel the vibrations changes when it is shot. I dont know if it will have an effect on accuracy, but your POI should change.
A friend of mine had his barrel cut because of weight and the rifle didnt shoot well with loads it loved before it was made lighter.

If you want to cut some weight think about having it Fluted. This will have the desired effect of cutting weight without losing rigidity and it will also improve the barrels heat disipation which is a bonus.

+1 to what Sean said, depending on how the barrel was manufactured: button drawn, hammer forged, destressed etc. It could work, or you could open up a can of worms. Best done by someone who knows what he is doing. Seen some disasters..

    Thanks for the advice guys.

Anyone knows of a competent gunsmith that can do the fluting, re-blueing etc?
