Default Re: The Gun is Civilization.

I went and pulled the article "Is an armed society a polite society? Guns and road rage". Its from 2006 from the journal "Accident; analysis and prevention".

The stats are super dodgy to pull the conclusion that people that have been in a car with a firearm in it are more likely to make obscene gestures (as defined by the study). The OR for this was 1.3 with 95% CI 1.1-1.9 p<0.05. In direct comparison the chances of the person committing obscene gestures was far more likely to be young (OR 8.3! p<0.0001), non-white, had conservative political views, had an arrest for non-traffic related violations and had participated in binge drinking recently. The study was not powered to examine whether gun ownership resulted in more aggressive driving. They looked at the correlation (not causation!) between aggressive driving behaviour and a multitude of other characteristics.

And the kicker? This study was part funded by the Joyce Foundation which has a central tenet of further gun control policies..

Statistical jiggery-pokery indeed. Don't believe everything you read in a medical journal.

    There you go, thanks L.

Everything that gfsa spouts, especially stats, should be regarded with utmost suspicion.

STATISTICS NEVER LIE BUT LIARS USE STATISTICS.

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."

    Attributed to Mark Twain.

    And also

"A lie can travel half way around the world while truth is putting on it's shoes"

The latter we face everyday in lies uttered by the likes of gfsa and lulu and others, and no pro-gun organisation that vigorously climbs onto each and every lie and ride it into the ground.

Wonder what GFSA would say about these low crime stats in Kennesaw Georgia USA, the most Pro gun State in the USA , where it is compulsary to own a firearm:
    Offense 2010 2011 2012
    Murder 0 0 0
    Manslaughter 0 0 0
    Rape 2 0 1
    Aggravated Assault 13 12 20
    Robbery 5 6 9
    Burglary 110 120 107
    Larceny/Theft 393 426 373
    Auto Theft 24 25 25
    Arson 0 0 0
    Total Part 1 Crimes 547 593 518

Now compare this to a gun free State like say Illinois and you will be surprised, but then ignorance is bliss they say...

The key word here is "propotionally"!

I get chills down my spine when I see gunfree S.A articles because I'm applying for a SD FA and one of these days these people might spoil our right to self defence n security.
