Re: DIY Rotary Tumbler
Bump with my latest iteration...
I have used direct drive worm gear reduction, and old gate motors mounted with the drum between centres in a vice... Hopefully this one proves a little more ergonomic.
Made from scraps mostly, bearing from china at R30 each, junk plywood i had lying around, stripped down old decrepit drill press for motor and pulleys, 20mm thread bar for drive shaft (I needed to turn a bush to fit the pulley to my available shaft material and it was easier just to clamp the pulley between nuts on the thread bar since my lathe is little) and a protein shake bucket.
Works pretty well for now, total expense around R300 and some time.

Nice practical one, Luke.
My tumbler uses a vfd with 3-phase motor, round polyurethane belt, and a custom pvc container.

Re: DIY Rotary Tumbler
Alas, I still have more time than money I have solids tucked away for a laser cut frame and hex drum, nicely turned shafts and controlled power plant (pwm and DC motors for me) but for the time being the cash is better spent on re-tiling the bathrooms, and more of those silly throw pillows (at least if my wife is to be believed )
Off topic, what's your take on cam auto turned brass solids for plinking ammo? Myself and a friend are going to have a batch made up for. 223 and. 308 and see how the economics and performance turn out...

Re: DIY Rotary Tumbler
The motor on my Rebel has packed up.
Anyone know where I can buy a small motor. I doubt that I am going to find the same one but something similar will do?
