New firearm cleaning
I heard that new firearms dont need cleaning for the first 1000 rounds? Sounds a little high? When should you first clean it?
The gun is a Glock 19 which has probably done around 400 rounds so far.

Re: New firearm cleaning
I clean my firearm after every single range session. I don't want to take chances with a dirty gun.
Most firearms will go without cleaning for many many shots, but it will reduce the longevity and reliability of the gun.

Yep ,you might not have to ,but it's better to clean it after every shoot ,the better you look after your baby the more faith you will have I suppose.

Re: New firearm cleaning
I fail to understand how a person can advise someone to only clean a gun after x numbers of rounds have been fired. I do not think there is any hard and fast rule but there is no harm in cleaning after every use. When new to guns the risk is more of over oiling / leaving too much oil in the barrel and mechanism which results in dust & fluff sticking and forming gunk.

Re: New firearm cleaning
I clean mine after every visit at the shooting range, and lightly oil before placing back in the safe
IMO:
The carbon etc builds up, and may cause problems later on.
If you buy a new car, and you see on the mags there are carbine builds up – are you going to leave it , or clean it – I’m sure you will clean it. and I,m sure you donot want carbine build up between your breaking system parts

Re: New firearm cleaning
While I don't advocate not cleaning your SD firearm after shooting. I shot just over 600 rounds over 2 days on CQC with Ross through my brand new G22 gen4, without a glitch! And I never cleaned after day1, just made sure it was lubed properly. A SD firearm should aways be clean, lubed and ready. A sports firearm which goes back in safe after shooting, will get cleaned later in week if I don't have the time.

I clean mine every three or four thousand rounds. Whether they need it or not.
