Would this be a best practise for a new pistol as well?

I have never done this. Clean it, shoot it lots. Enjoy. Clean. Repeat

I have never heard of this method before, hence me posting the question.
Seems like a lot of cleaning and very little shooting if that method is followed.

I was advised by a knowledgeable dealer to put 1000 rounds through my Sig before cleaning for the first time, only thing was to keep it lubed and wiped down after shooting. Was told to expect, amongst other things, a better trigger for doing this.

It worked for me, runs sweetly and the trigger definitely feels better.

For ten months of that run in period it was in dealer stock waiting for CFR, no problems sitting for extended periods without being shot.
