Default shocking range safety at Irene shooting range today...

Went to Irene to have some fun with LoopSoosStroop's duelling tree today. Handgun and rifle range was really busy, but I was shocked by the unsafe gun handling!! I had handguns/rifles pointed/sweeped at me at least 3 times! Rifle range was worst, some idiot was looking through his rifle's scope in our direction while we were patching targets. I immediately asked him to please stop doing that, but then he gave me serious attitude and justified it by saying his bolt was open! Then his small kids proceeded to the the same with a closed bolt! Don't people realise that this is actually illegal apart from being unsafe? I hope this person reads it and is a member of Gunsite! How would you handle this type of situation?

Oh, and an interesting observation was that it was mostly Afrikaans people handling their guns poorly. My theory for this is that most of these Afrikaans people grow up around guns. They therefore believe that they "know" how to handle firearms. English speaking or others are often new to firearms, they are then trained in proper gun handling from scratch and don't come with the same "baggage". I am Afrikaans for the record, no offence intended but this is my theory.

    I would not tloerate it.

If someone is unsafe with a gun it shows lack of experience with it. I have yet to meet someone that knows his guns and is unsafe.

Its those that know buggerall but pretend to know it all that are very unsafe to be around.

Tell them, stand your ground, and if still an issue remove yourself and notify range owners.

If there is doubt there is NO doubt.

Kaspaas, I am also Afrikaans. Where were the range officers? You should report the incident immediately to higher authority or even go to the SAPS let them check who was on duty as range officers!

Do not leave it there! You were lucky, next time somebody gets shot and hurt then it counts against us agian because it was a gun injuring somebody and not somebody using the gun.

I beg you to take action please.

Just think if you take your kid and he/she gets shot. Then its too late.

    Report it!!!!!!!

When I first started shooting at the ranges in New Zealand I used to think that the Range Officers here were pathetically pedantic ...

Nowadays ... I just like the fact that I know that they are keeping me safe ...

You should not tolerate this ... Report it!!!

No range official. If it was one person it would be easier, but you had maybe 6 out of 14 people behaving like this. I just stood back out of harm's way and let them kill each other...

Was at Krokedilspruit today, safety first and after each event the speaker clearly states, bolt out of rifles, no one touches rifles while the range is closed / someone on the range. Official and Owner was there today. So try them next time
