Default Ruger M77 hawkeye alaskan 416 Ruger

Im actually in the market for a 375 H&H, but stumbled on the above mentioned rifle today.
OOOooooh did it make me feel warm and fuzzy.

Anyone have any experience with the 416 Ruger cartridge and should I rather wait for the right 375 H&H to come past.

Don't want to shoot buff yet. Would be for Eland and larger game for now.

The write up's seem to indicate that the 416 Ruger is a great cartridge, probably major overkill for Eland though. The other issue you may have is factory ammo availability. As far as I am aware it is only Hornady who currently make factory ammo for this calibre. The calibre was a joint venture between Ruger and Hornady. If you reload I would imagine that this would not be a problem.

I have the Alaskan in 375 Ruger, it is a great rifle to shoot and the recoil is very manageable, my wife loves shooting it and she is small. As far as ammo goes reload and stock up on cases. So in conclusion I would say get the Alaskan, then get the 375 H&H later!

Savage makes the Alaskan Hunter in 375 Ruger also at a very decent price too!

One of these are definately going to be my next rifle.

Recoil is manageable with full power loads, the synthetic stock soaks it all up.

Action is very slick, can cycle fast without mishap.

GS-Custom make a 245gr monolithic, which can be loaded to 2400 fps to take scoped shots out to 200 meters, if you want heavier you can go to a 330gr GS-Custom [ the 380gr doesn't feed right with 3 in the mag ] or you can load hornady 400 grainers.

A Leupold scope 3-9 with LR reticle, and you have a multi-purpose rifle that you can hunt anything with : unscoped and heavy bullets for bush, scoped and lighter bullets for longer range.
