how many rifles and how many pistols can you own in SA?
If I skip owning a shotgun, will that let me own one more firearm of some other type? I can do all that I am interested in doing with 1 rifle and 3 handguns, and 1 of the pistols is just to have a "spare", in a country where a fast replacement is probably not available.

Can your spouse own just as many more? Are there limits on the amount of ammo or reloading components that you can possess?

Plenty of info here if you search.

You can own as many guns as you can motivate. If of course you join a club and become a dedicated sport shooter or the like. As Springer mentioned, plenty info on this site if you use the search function. All your questions have been answered before.

Re: how many rifles and how many pistols can you own in SA?
In short, the average guy may own 4 firearms of which no more than 2 may be handguns. If you forego some handguns the empty slots may be filled by as many rifles as you like up to the 4 gun limit.
If you want to exceed this limit you need to get dedicated status which, although it is very common among members of this forum, is pursued by only a tiny fraction of the gunowners in the country.

+1 get dedicated status, maintain that status and buy until your heart contends. Just make sure you motivate it right!!

Re: how many rifles and how many pistols can you own in SA?
Depends if you have Dedicated Status or not.
If not, and you are licensing some on OSS (Occassional Sport), you may have a total of 4 firearms (Mixed between SD and OSS). In this event, a maximum of 2 hand-guns are allowed, so you will not be able to get 3 handguns.
Dedicated Status is a different situation. The above would not apply.
The same rulings above would apply to your wife.
On non-DSS, there are limits to ammo and reloading (max 2400 primers per caliber, and limits on Powder).
Read the FCA... the above is all in there.
