.308 is much shorter than the 25-06. The extractor and bolt face for both calibers are the same so it would feed quite well.

Not sure how you mistake the 2 cartridges though, they don't look alike. Unless the rifles look alike and he got them mixed up.

That's horrifying.

Trying to get my head around how a receiver would explode like that. Is it because the .308 bullet is much to wide to fit down the barrel so it got lodged at the end of the chamber. With nowhere for the pressure to go it changes the receiver into a pipe bomb?
