I received this CLLE as a gift. When I first got it, the bore was very dark as is typical. Some aggresive copper solvent and about 100 rounds has revealed a very shiney bore. Although shiney, and after about 50 patches, I still havent got a single clean patch through the bore, I have never encountered so much fouling before.
At 100m I could get about palm sized groupings.
Firing 100 rounds through a Lee with a brass butt plate is a good way to get a severy bruised shoulder...

Anyone know what the "Z" marking means? It is stamped on the top of the knox form, over the BSA stacked rifles marking. I first thought it had something to do with Nitro proofing, but it does have a "Nitro Proofed" stamping on the side of the chamber, under the top wood cover.

The "Z" marking was applied at a base workshop and by itself means that the rifle in its present condition is condemned. The "Z" coupled with other letters relates to more severe sentences ranging from being returned to the factory for repairs to immediate destruction.

ZF = Beyond local repair, except at factory
Z BLR = Beyond local repair
Z BER = Beyond economical repair (scrapped rifle)

A single "Z" is not listed in Skinnerton, Stratton or Raynolds

There is an older GS thread (think 2013 somewhere) where Daan states he has only ever seen it on BSA barrels on RSA rebuilt LEs.

thanks terrylee, I'm not using her as a long range sniper rifle, just happy to knock over some cans and water bottles at the range. 100m is far enough for me.

I have other rifles for hunting etc.

How is this for a grouping from a Charger Loading Lee Enfield @100m with Parker Hale peep sight?
I used some SA millsurp ammo (A77 M3Z)

Pick heavy :Posted some pics of mine on a separate thread to get some clarity on the stamps and markings.
Like Tobie said, that brass plate does not provide much protection from the recoil.
