Never underestimate the mechanical advantage of a screw thread, that is why there are three threaded rods to retain the pressure that will come to bear against the front cap.
    Good stuff. This makes sense...

    Andrew

Will it perhaps be possible to repost the pictures that went with this post?

I want to build one myself.

    Regards

    Necropost.....

Andrew, I can't see your pic's so have no idea of your design.

We made a few 155mm sausage stuffers (basically a large syringe) driven by a 20mm threaded rod as a group build.

It worked well for about 2-3 years.

A few things to bear in mind.
    1) The pitch on the thread is your main point of failure. Ideally you need a buttress threaded rod and not your standard threaded rod from the hardware. Standard threaded rod is not designed to take the amount of back pressure that a sausage filler generates.
    2) The unit builds up pressure and you will need to learn when to back off, otherwise it gets exciting.
    3) Depending on your design, the seal is also a point of failure, have spares.
    4) Refilling, if you have to back the entire thread out is a real PITA.

We had a look at using an electric gate bar as our drive source. Much better, but we could no longer get the seals for the unit.

I spent the money of a commercial stuffer (8lt stand-up) and have never looked back. 1000% better.

    Here it is,

From the top. PVC tube and laser cut parts. Might even have the drawings somewhere.

The right angled gearbox, threaded rod goes down the centre.

Waiting for the front to be removed in order to fill from above.

I have drawings that can be used to give to a laser cutter. Here is the assembly drawing (don't get on my case I know its not third or first projection) it is the Leigh projection.
