Default Webly & Scott SAPS isse

    Hi Chaps

I have the opertunity to get my hands on a Webley and Scott 9mm Auto pistol. From the home work I have done thus far this was a SAPS issue in around the late 1920s. the fire arm is in fair to good condition, with the grips are not being original IMHO.

    I have two silly questions

1 The previous owner (A Memory challenged old chap) sais he has no licance for this fire arm, thus would I be able to get it licanced??

2 The second question is this something that would be worth colecting, and going through any extra effort to get it legal.

any advise or info would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Dusty.

Yes Dusty, the 9 mm Webley pistols are very collectable. They are not common in SA.

If you can get it licensed, I would be interested. It does fit between my Webleys.

Going to be a ball ache to get it licenced if it never was. I have asked the same question on the forum before and the general concensus then, was to walk away.

A friend of mine managed to get a .22 rifle that was not on the books before, licenced.
He told his DFO, insisted that it was a valuable piece property, and applied for the licence. Maybe the fact that it is a collectable firearm could sway them, to accept the application.
It seems to depend on the reasonableness of the DFO.

Despite what has been written in various books, these pistols were NOT SAP issue. They were procured by the Union Defence Force (UDF) and issued to Permanent Force officers. They are chambered for the 9 mm Browning Long cartridge.
