The way I understood it was that you need a day pass if you dont have an e-tag?

Re: Gauteng E-tolls
If you don't have an e-tag I do believe you can still benefit from the lower rates given you pay your bill within 7 days of you passing a toll gate. (I THINK)
I also heard that if you drive with the white line in the middle of your car, you'll miss the BEEP as the gantry's overhead sensors only pick up thingies in the middle of the lane.
That, and with the current overhead system you can get a fine for average speed if you pass two gates too quickly in succession. That's not a bad thing, IMO.

Re: Gauteng E-tolls
Driving on the N1/M1 today for the first time in a few weeks, I was thinking.
One of the best ways to get this system really stuffed. Is for everyone that does not use the highway to go on the toll road for 1 gantry only. To do this at 1 week intervals for a few months. Thus generating a huge amount of additional paperwork.
When you get your fine in standard mail, wait 2 weeks and request your invoice as they must be sent via registered mail to be legal.
To the 3 people that got e-tags. remove them for the first month/week. You will also be really keen to remove your e-tag when they send you bills for the e-tag and for your numberplate. It will be just as easy to sort that mess out as getting you city of Joburg account sorted. Good luck.
I don't commute but I will use the road when needed to test the system.
So if everyone uses alternative routs and the suburbs are congested to sh!t are they going to upgrade those roads as well and the toll them?
This is going to blow up in their face.
