So confused regarding unit standard 117705
I have just applied for my competency and license for a shotgun.
In the past I did unit standard 10748 (use of handgun) and I got a competency card issued in 2008.
I recently did the unit standard for shotgun (119652), got the certificate from the training facility, and applied for my license. I was asked if I did the law, and showed them my competency card. They said as long as I had a competency card separate from my license, that I did do the law, and all was well..
Today I got a call from the police and they requested that I give a copy of the unit standard 117705. This is apparently the "law" bit, which I did not previously do for my existing competency card.
I called the training facility again, and they insist that this is not required if I already have the separate competency card. The police, on the other hand, seem to think it is still required for the new competency card.
I am very confused at this point, I don't really know who to believe - does anyone have any good knowledge on this? I would appreciate the help, the application must leave the station soon.
Thanks.

Get the officer to explain how the law is differently applied to a shotgun verses a pistol. I would agree with the training facility. While you are going through the hassle , why not include the rife- then you have all three?

Re: So confused regarding unit standard 117705
Well, according to the captain that I spoke to, the 117705 unit standard was not necessary when I did my competency with regards to the pistol, but it is now, so I have to do it for the shotgun. This is also my understanding from what I have read.
Very confusing, but will speak to training facility to clarify.

Re: So confused regarding unit standard 117705
had a problem like that as well from what i found out all licences applied for prviosley would be accepteted as it was at that time .all new applications being done needs the unit standerd 117705 there resone for that is in the old book u might remember doing the law in use of a hand gun use of a shot gun and all ather unit standerds this ment if u applying for rifle shotgun and hand gun u had to do the law 3 times. now they made it he law a sepret unit standerd so that if u applying fro all 3 u only do the law once remeber the law and one of the ather unit standerds is one price ranging from 700 to 1000 rands depending on were u do it and the xtra coures is 450 to 600 rands. some places might make u pay the inetial fee again if u do handgun n rifle sepreatly hope that helps if u still confuzed please send me a personel msg with ur phone number and area will give u a call and help out as much as i can
