Mauser extractor modification?
Does anyone know how to modify the mauser extractor to enable the bolt to be closed on a cartridge without it being caught in the claw. (single round feed)

Re: Mauser extractor modification?
Thats the beauty of the Mauser type extractor claw! It will extract a sticky case which might still be stuck if another type of extactor was used.
You trying to get an extra round, capacity wise?

Re: Mauser extractor modification?
I'm just trying to make it "bullet proof". If a round by accident jumps the claw and ends up in the chamber I want to be able to chamber it and let the claw jump over it when I close the bolt.

Re: Mauser extractor modification?
Rudib
I have a similar problem with my Brno .243. Sometimes the cartridge jumps in front of the extractor and them the bolt won't close. I once forced it close in a competition and the result was pricey, I had to buy another extractor. There seems to be no way that I know of to get around this problem.
If someone knows a remedy put your knowledge here.

Re: Mauser extractor modification?
Casper, I believe there is a way to modify "bevel" the extractor, but I don't know exactly where and how. Surely someone else knows......PLEASE HELP!

Re: Mauser extractor modification?
Here is a discussion on the topic from another board...not exactly your rifle(s) but very close and the same issue.
http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=55763
My first step would be to order a copy of Jerry Khunhausen's shop manual on the Mauser from Brownell's...his manuals are great and it will be money well spent, but I am sure there are a few already in SA...I might next order a spare extractor for my specific rifle too
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=2..._A_SHOP_MANUAL
Hope that helps. I am positive there are 'smiths in SA who either have done this or certainly can do it for you, but understand it is a trade-off, as you will weaken the extractor lipRun Fast, Bite Hard!

Re: Mauser extractor modification?
My Winchester pre 64, which is a Mauser type action, allows me to close the bolt on a chambered cartridge because of the bevel on the extractor. Dont know if it is of any help...

Re: Mauser extractor modification?
Both my CZ550 and FN mauser {although the FN requires a bit more force} allows me to close the bolt on a loaded round.
the lips looks like this ...
pic found here
another sulotion mauser rifles, unmodifed, can be loaded without using magizine by dropping round in chamber and pinching the extracter behind the extracter ring and gently closing the bolt, extracter slips over cartridge rim with no effort
This won't do do in a tricky situation though. Do a search for mauser extactor and you wil find discussions on the same topic
