    Default Howdah Pistol

Does anyone own an orginal howdah pistol?

I've been offered one. Have no idea about what would be a reasonable price to offer?

No. Asked for an offer on the pistol.

He obviously has a price in mind but keeping quite hoping I offer more. A quick search of the web re. values and pricing didn't turn much up. Looks like original pistols are like hens teeth.

    My 2c

I know Classic Arms sells the Pedersoli replica, and if I remember correctly, the price is above the R6k mark.

But you say it's an original?

Do you want to shoot it or use it as a wall hanger?
If you intend to use it, is it in working condition, and safe to use?

At the end of the day the price you are willing to pay will be dictated by what you want to do with the pistol.
No sense paying a lot of money for a wall hanger. If you intend to use it, weigh the pro&cons + price of the original against the Pedersoli replica.

    Good luck

It's 150 yrs+ old so as far as using it is concerned I wouldn't want to risk it without having the pistol properly checked.

Chances are it will only be good for display purposes and I don't think there's much collector value in the pistol.

Thanks for all the replies so far and the info. given
