Man, son killed in wildebeest attack.
http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/Ne...ttack-20131216
Johannesburg - A farmer from Maclear, in the Eastern Cape, and his son were killed when two black wildebeest charged at them, Beeld reported on Monday.
Michael Moore, 59, his wife Adele, son John-John and daughter Julie, 22, had gone for a walk on the farm Earlostown on Saturday. Two black wildebeest were kept in a camp on the farm.
The Moores were apparently not aware of the animals being there.
"When the animals charged them, Adele managed to get away and ran in the direction of Rhodes," Gerrit Henning, chairperson of the Rhodes Community Safety Initiative, told the newspaper.
She asked for help at a nearby farm. She was unhurt. Her daughter sustained injuries to her head and face.

Re: Man, son killed in wildebeest attack.
First time I've heard of a wildebeest charging a human. Anyone know of this happening before?

Black W/B and Ostrich make very good 'watch dogs' and are used by many farmers.

Re: Man, son killed in wildebeest attack.
In a normal group structure no, but like Big John said plenty farmers use them as watch(actually guard) dogs. You put them alone in a camp they take on the role of aggressor.
I've heard a story from a farmer in the Middelburg(EC) district, the farm is close to the town and a black wildebeest guards a camp on the road side. Now that beast became legend among the local folks, so every now and then over a weekend someone will get strong(read alcohol) and decides to prove his enormous manhood by vanquishing that beast with a knobkiere or some blunt force object. I hear they've recovered a number of bodies.

Re: Man, son killed in wildebeest attack.
I have been on the receiving end of charging Black wildebeest before.(and once an injured Blue wildebeest) Luckily the steel fold up table made a good enough barrier. There was also a story in the paper (I think on GunSite also - can't remember) some time ago about Majoor the Wildebeest, I think that's what they called the Wildebeest that has killed numerous trespassers.

I have read a couple of stories in Magnum about charging blue wildebeest, but they are usually wounded.
First I've heard of a black wildebeest charging.
